1st April, 2024
Oliver is set to compete at the British
The British Olympic Trials is set to kick off this week. Oliver is entered in the 100m and 200m Backstroke events, where he makes his bid to get onto the British Olympic Team for the Paris 2024 Olympics. He will also look to defend both his 100 & 200m Backstroke British Titles.
Looking back, Oliver is carrying some great form as he heads towards the trials. Oliver's 2024 kicked off with a training camp in Phuket, Thailand - where trained with the likes of Adam Peaty, Luke Greenbank and Anna Hopkin. In late February, Oliver headed to the BUCS Long Course Championships where he broke 3 BUCS records and posted 2 new in-seasons bests and 1 personal best. In Oliver's final prep meet at the Edinburgh International, Oliver defended his skins title as well as winning the 100m Backstroke. All of this makes for some great racing as Oliver looks to put himself on the British Olympic Team.
On Wednesday (3rd April), Oliver will race the 100m Backstroke where he is entered as the fastest swimmer. Oliver will go head to head with the likes of Bath Performance Centre's Jonathon Adam, Cameron Brooker and recent American college breakout swimmer Jonathon Marshall. Oliver is entered on his personal best time of 53.25, sitting 0.2 ahead of Jonathon Adam. This will look to be a thrilling race in the final as Oliver sets his sights on Liam Tancock's British Record, and also to be the 3rd Brit ever to go sub-53 seconds in the 100m Backstroke.
Then on the final day, Sunday (7th April), Oliver races the 200m Backstroke where he is entered as the second fastest seed just behind Olympic Bronze Medallist in 2021; Luke Greenbank. Oliver goes up against the likes of Commonwealth Champion Brodie Williams, and Loughborough Performance Centre's Charlie Brown. Oliver is entered on his personal best time of 1:57.17 which he achieved at the British Swimming Championships last year, and he will look to go even quicker this on Sunday.
Oliver has said:
Olympic Trials will be a great opportunity for some top level racing. I am really looking forward to some tapered swimming again, and with a place on the Team GB Olympic team up for grabs - it's really exciting. It will also be my first time racing at the London Aquatics Centre.
