100m Backstroke - Semi-Finals

29th July, 2024

A superb swim sees Oliver progress into the final!

Oliver returned in the evening to make his bid to challenge for a spot in the final. Swimming in Lane 7 in the second Semi-Final, Oliver was next to the Chinese Backstroker Xu Jiayu in Lane 6 and Canada's Blake Tierney on the other side in Lane 8.

It was a challenging swim for Ollie, as he was swimming in the fast-starting Xu's waves turning in a 25.69 compared to Xu's 24.89. Oliver finished the race strong and wound up 3rd in his heat in a time of 52.85 beating the likes of 50m Backstroke World Record Holder Hunter Armstrong and 2023 200m Backstroke World Champion Hubert Kos.

This time was also 0.15 off his personal best time set in London at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships earlier this year.

Oliver progresses into the final seeded 7th which is due to take place tonight.
